Sustainability at the core of every panel
Acoustic treatment doesn't need to cost the environment. Every Woven Image panel we stock is manufactured from recycled plastic bottles, certified carbon neutral at every stage, and fully recyclable at end of life.
This page is a plain-language account of the specifics — recycled content by range, the certifications behind the claims, what happens to the panel at the end of its life, and the green building credits your project can claim.

From plastic bottles to acoustic panels
PET is the same polymer used in single-use drink bottles. It's one of the most widely recycled plastics in the world, and it happens to be an excellent raw material for acoustic fibre — dimensionally stable, dust-free, and non-irritant.
Woven Image panels take that waste stream and turn it into architectural surfaces. The process is mechanical, not chemical — no binders, no resins, no formaldehyde.
Compare that with traditional fibreglass or mineral-wool acoustic panels: mixed materials, formaldehyde-based binders, facings that can't be separated at demolition, and glass fibre dust that needs PPE to handle. PET felt is none of those things.

In production
Single-polymer PET felt, thermally bonded
Plastic bottles collected
Post-consumer PET bottles — the clear plastic used in beverage packaging — are gathered from recycling streams before they can reach landfill or waterways.
Flaked and cleaned
Bottles are sorted, washed, and shredded into small flakes. Contaminants (labels, caps, residue) are removed so only clean PET polymer remains.
Extruded into fibres
Flakes are melted and drawn into fine polyester fibres. These are the same fibres that drive the acoustic absorption in the finished panel.
Thermally bonded into felt
Fibres are cross-laid, compressed, and heat-bonded — no glues or chemical binders. The finished panel is a single-polymer PET felt, ready to absorb sound.

Recycled content varies by range because the manufacturing process for each panel type uses different fibre specifications. All panels are 100% PET by construction — the percentage refers specifically to post-consumer recycled content.
Third-party certified, not self-declared
"Sustainable" is a word that's been stretched out of shape by marketing departments. The antidote is independent verification. Every sustainability claim on this page is backed by one of the certifications below — audited by organisations with no financial interest in Woven Image.
Climate Active Carbon Neutral
Australian Government-backed certification verifying net-zero emissions across the entire product lifecycle — manufacturing, freight, and end of life.
Global GreenTag GreenRate Level A
The highest independent sustainability rating from Global GreenTag, covering environmental performance, ethical sourcing, and health impacts.
Product Health Declaration
Global GreenTag PhD discloses every material ingredient, giving specifiers full transparency on what is inside the panel.
Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)
An independently verified report covering embodied carbon, energy use, and environmental impact — the gold standard for specification.
Declare — Red List Free
Certified free from the Living Building Challenge Red List of worst-in-class building materials. No harmful chemicals, no hidden toxins.
Low VOC Emissions
Meets Green Star IEQ low-VOC requirements. Panels can be installed and occupied immediately with no off-gassing or indoor air quality penalty.
WELL Building Standard
Contributes to WELL v2 acoustic comfort (V07) and air quality features for projects pursuing WELL certification.
Intertek Clean Air Gold
Independent verification that the finished panel releases no harmful volatile compounds into the indoor air.
Why third-party verification matters
A manufacturer saying its own product is sustainable is marketing. An independent auditor saying the same thing — after reviewing manufacturing processes, supply chains, material ingredients, and end-of-life outcomes — is evidence. Every panel we sell carries that evidence, and every document is available on request for specifiers who need to lodge it with Green Star or WELL assessors.

End-of-life recycling, not landfill
A sustainable product has to be sustainable at every stage — not just at the point of manufacture. Most acoustic panels on the market are mixed-material assemblies that end up in landfill when a fitout is stripped. Ours don't.
Single-polymer construction
The entire panel — face, body, and core — is 100% PET. Nothing to separate, nothing to discard. The whole panel is recyclable as-is.
Take-back programme
At end of life, Woven Image will take back commercial installations and feed the panels back into the recycling stream rather than landfill.
Contrast with mineral wool
Traditional fibreglass and rockwool panels contain binders, resins, and facings that cannot be separated — they end up as landfill and release respirable fibres during demolition.
Closed-loop potential
Because PET is a single, clean polymer, recovered panels can re-enter the fibre stream. The bottle becomes a panel becomes a fibre again.
Documentation that moves a project forward
If your project is targeting Green Star, WELL, LEED, or NCC compliance, these panels arrive with the paperwork your assessor needs. No chasing manufacturers, no last-minute substitutions.
Green Star
Contributes points under IEQ-13 Acoustic Comfort, MAT-4 Sustainable Products, and MAT-5 Life Cycle Impacts. EPD and GreenTag Level A documentation available on request.
WELL v2
Directly supports feature V07 Reverberation Time and the broader Sound Concept. Low-VOC status contributes to Air Concept features.
LEED v4 / v4.1
Compatible with MR credits for recycled content, EPDs, and Material Ingredients. Declare label satisfies Material Ingredients Option 1.
NCC & BCA
Fire performance (AS ISO 9705 Group 1, AS 1530.3) and indoor air quality credentials support compliance for commercial fitouts across Australia.
Shipped from a Perth warehouse, not a shipping container
Embodied carbon isn't just about how a product is made — it's about how far it travels. A panel that ships from Europe or Asia carries the freight emissions of that journey on its back for the rest of its life.
Our stock is held in Balcatta, Perth. Orders go out from here across Western Australia and interstate by domestic freight — a fraction of the emissions profile of imported competing products.
It also supports Australian manufacturing. Woven Image is an Australian company that designs and engineers here, and the products we distribute keep that engineering investment at home.
