Application: Home & Media Rooms

Acoustic Panels for Home Theatres

Tune your home theatre, media room or listening space without the industrial studio look. EchoPanel® and decorative acoustic tiles in 37 colourways, designed to absorb sound and look like part of the room.

Home theatres and media rooms only sound right when the room is acoustically tuned. Bare walls, polished floors and full-height glazing send sound bouncing, which muddies dialogue, smears the soundstage and undermines whatever speaker set-up the room is built around. Decorative acoustic panels solve this without committing the room to the look of a recording studio. We supply the full EchoPanel® range direct to homeowners, designers and integrators Australia-wide.

Why this matters

Why home theatres need acoustic panels

Reflection is the enemy of clarity. In a home theatre, reflected sound from the side walls and rear wall arrives at the listening position out of phase with the direct sound from the speakers, blurring the imaging and reducing intelligibility. Acoustic panels absorb those reflections at the points they would otherwise bounce, sharpening dialogue and tightening the bass and midrange. The same principle applies in any media room, listening space or open-plan family area where TV viewing matters.

Recommended ranges

Recommended ranges for home and media rooms

EchoPanel® 12mm flat is the most common choice for first-reflection points on side walls and rear walls. The embossed 9mm and 3D formed 12mm ranges suit homeowners who want the acoustic benefit and a feature wall in the same gesture. Acoustic tiles in 25mm offer the highest absorption per square metre, often used on the front wall or behind the screen.

EchoPanel® 12mm

Standard flat panel for first-reflection treatment. 37 colourways means it disappears or stands out by choice.

EchoPanel® Embossed 9mm

Surface-textured panels (Gem, Ion, Zen, Pico) that double as a feature wall in a media room.

EchoPanel® 3D Formed

Three-dimensional thermoformed patterns. Excellent for the rear wall or focal feature in a dedicated theatre.

Acoustic Tiles

25mm tiles for highest absorption per square metre, ideal for the front wall behind the screen.

Specification guidance

Specification guidance for home theatres

Treat first-reflection points first: the side walls between the listener and front speakers, the front wall behind the screen, and the rear wall behind the listening position. EchoPanel® sheet panel absorption is published at direct fix, 20mm air gap and 50mm air gap — at a 50mm air gap EchoPanel® 12mm reaches αw 0.60 and EchoPanel® 24mm reaches αw 0.70. EchoPanel® 12mm and 24mm are both AS 5637.1 Group 1 fire rated, and EchoPanel® 12mm holds Intertek Clean Air Gold for low VOC emissions, making them safe for enclosed media rooms and family living spaces.
